Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question? Call us at (215) 464-7222 — our team is ready to help.

Current clinical guidelines recommend colonoscopy screening beginning at age 45 for adults at average risk for colorectal cancer. Patients with a personal or family history of colon polyps, colorectal cancer, or inflammatory bowel disease may need screening earlier. Your gastroenterologist will evaluate your individual risk during your consultation.

Your first visit is a comprehensive consultation with one of our board-certified gastroenterologists. You will discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any prior test results. Based on this evaluation, your physician will recommend the most appropriate next steps — whether that is further diagnostic testing, a gastroscopy appointment, or a personalized treatment plan.

Your physician will provide specific preparation instructions tailored to your procedure. Generally, colonoscopy preparation involves a bowel cleansing process the day before the procedure, while upper endoscopy requires fasting for several hours beforehand. Detailed guidance will be given during your consultation — do not follow generic instructions found online.

Colonoscopy is generally well-tolerated and performed under sedation in our affiliated Grant Surgicenter. Most patients report minimal discomfort and are able to resume normal activities within a day. Your physician will discuss what to expect during and after the procedure.

Bustleton Gastroenterology Associates accepts most major insurance plans. We encourage you to call our office at (215) 464-7222 to verify your specific coverage and discuss any questions about cost or billing before your visit.

Our gastroenterology center diagnoses and manages a wide range of conditions, including GERD, IBS, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids, celiac disease, liver and gallbladder disorders, pancreatic conditions, and colorectal cancer screening.
